What to say...? Well I'm doing my PhD in physics. Hopefully that much is obvious. I do love physics, but also love the fact that, in our department at least, I can get involved in lots of other things too. Call me crazy but I don't mind bureaucracy/democracy, whatever you want to call it, and get involved any time I can. Maybe it's just a form of procrastination. (What do you mean `maybe' - definitely!) I've was involved in the PSS as an undergrad and then the PPSS when I started my PhD.

It doesn't stop there. The PPSS has done a lot of great things for students in the department and that includes getting postgrads on School Committees. So, unsurprisingly I've been on a few of these too.

I've been elected to the UMPA Council for 2004. UMPA, the University of Melbourne Postgraduate Association, represents and provides support for postgraduates. UMPA Council is the governing body. I'm also a member of UMPA Executive Committee in 2004.

I took a year off between honours and my PhD to spend a year as a student `politician' in the Melbourne University Student Union (MUSU). It was an elected position and I worked with some fabulous people. I had an amazing time but I think it put me off real politics.

I've been involved in a few campaigns, particularly the refugee campaign which reached a high in Australia during the `Tampa Crisis'. There are a number of refugee advocacy/action groups around, one of the largest is RAC, who are still keeping up the campaign for humane treatment of refugees and asylum seekers in Australia.

...more to come

Photo collections I have on the web and photos from friends.
