Conclusions
- Since 1972 nuclear microprobe resolution has improved from 3 ?m to 0.3 ?m for conventional IBA
- Can go down to 0.1 - 0.05 ?m for IBIC
- Instrumentation and data acquistion systems have also improved (but still no standardisation)
- Many useful ways of forming images have been developed
- For the future:
- High brightness ion sources (need orders of magnitude improvement to make a significant advance)
- Stronger lenses
- Still more imaging methods: PIXE tomography,...
