Mission
The National Committee for Astronomy is one of 32 national committees of the Australian Academy of Science. Its aims are to:
- liaise with the International Astronomical Union;
- propose and encourage activity in the astronomical sciences in Australia, in collaboration with the Astronomical Society of Australia and other appropriate national bodies;
- promulgate the national value and benefits of the astronomical sciences;
- act as a peak body, as, for example, in the preparation of the Discipline Research Strategy, Australian Astronomy Beyond 2000, for the Australian Research Council.
